Who we are
Mell Lawrence Architects is an Austin architectural firm known for the quality and uniqueness of its design work, and for its attentiveness to client needs. We strive for an architecture that is thoughtful and purposeful. We create functional solutions that more than simply utilitarian, they are emotive and evocative; spirited, graceful and imbued with whimsy, wit and optimism. Our architecture celebrates the simplicity of elemental materials, the truth of nature, our bodies´ movement through spaces, the inspiration of beauty, and the delight of the sun´s animating light.
What we do
Our work spans a variety of building types. From restaurant, retail and office environments to new homes and residential additions, our work seeks to honor the best of timeless building traditions while embracing modern building technologies.
We enjoy designing places that are based on our clients' visions. This is reflected in the wide range of building expressions in our work. Clients with various interests and different needs keep the design process exciting for us, and inspire us to create an ever-growing range of architectural expression.
We seek design solutions that are responsive to their context--whether situated in natural or urban environments--and that are appropriate to budgetary limitations. We seek to respond diligently to environmental and climatic concerns. In every project, our intention is to provide a service of the highest quality.
Creating places with character is one of the aspirations of our firm. Our design strength lies in fitting buildings to the land and paying special attention to the craft of assembling materials. History
Founded in 1991 by Mell Lawrence, we have grown to become a firm of eight people, four of whom are registered architects. Our collective professional experience gives the office a wealth of knowledge that we apply to our varied projects.
Our Team
We are fortunate to have an exceptionally talented group of architectural professionals in our firm. We collaborate on projects, assembling in teams to accomplish the services that our clients and projects require.
The portfolio on this site is a collection of favorite images of selected projects. We intend the images to be indicative of the quality and variety of work that we have created in the last decade.
All projects shown are the products of Mell Lawrence Architects except for the following: West Lynn Cafe and the Berkeley Campus Gate were completed as a joint venture between Mell Lawrence and Paul Lamb. The House on River Road was completed by the partnership of Paul Lamb & Mell Lawrence Architects. The Capitol Gazebo was designed while employed at Charles W. Moore, Architect.
