The architect designed this simple house for a family of four as an open rectangular volume that encourages family time spent together. Despite a small footprint, the interior has a dramatic presence created through a double height ceilings with windows that run virtually the length of the northern wall.
Smaller spaces housing bedrooms and a library open off the main space, allowing for more private retreats. Commercial-grade aluminum windows maximize north views while deep overhangs shade sunlight on the south side’s lower roof.
A screened porch provides the main entrance and connects the living area to a studio/ loft. Exterior materials were selected for cost consideration aesthetics and reference to rural vernacular. Galvanized corrugated metal was applied for siding and roofing and contrasts the wood framing of the screened porch, which warms the palette and connects the house to its naturalized site.
